This member of the Cucurbitaceae  family was given this name by Werner Rauh in 1998. It is found in southern Madagascar, growing in a well drained sandy soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to eight centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 60 centimetres in height. The flowers are brownish.

The genera is named after A. Seyrig, a French entomologist. The species is named for the shape of the caudex: "globular at the top and tapering off abruptly".
