This member of the
was given this name by Hendrik Johannes Tjaar Venter and Andor M. Venter in 2013. It is found in
northern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and
little to some sun. The caudex can grow to ten centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to six metres in height. The flowers are creamy to pale green.
The genera name is an n anagram
of Pentopetia, into which Petopentia natalensis was
originally and erroneously placed. The species name after the edges
of the leaves.
This Genus has recently been under Asclepiadaceae, then classified under Periploceceae.
