This member of the Peperomiaceae family was given this name by Marie-Stéphanie Samain and Guillermo Pino in 2011. It is found in central Peru, around 2500 meters height, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow from 1,5 to 2,2 centimetres in diameter, the leaves from 5 to 14 centimetres, and the greenish flowers up to 20 centimetres.

The genera name means 'pepper-like', not as to appearance but as to kinship. The species name in honour of Werner Rauh, a famous German botanist, who found it in 1983.

')Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016 is Peperomiaceae now part of the Piperaceae.
