This member of the
was given this name by William Herbert in 1820. It is found in the Eastern Cape
in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The bulb can grow to
three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are pale of just pink, but a
cultivar with white is made.
It have been given
several names through time, but Nerine undulata seems to be the
most common used.
The genera name from nereids
referring to the sea-nymphs in Greek mythology. The
species name undulata means 'wavy, undulating', in reference to
the crinkled tepals of the flowers.
