This member of the Rubiaceae family was given this name by
Elmer Drew Merrill and Lily May Perry in 1945. It is found
in Irian Jaya in Indonesia, growing as an epiphyte with
quite some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 16
centimetres in diameter, 30 centimetres long, the entire plant to 50 centimetres in
height with one unbranched stem.
The genera name means 'ant head'.
The species name for Richard Archbold, an US-American 20th century
patron of science and biologist.
