This member of the
Euphorbiaceae family
was given this name by Alan Radcliffe-Smith in 1993. It is found in northern
Zambia, growing in a well drained sandy soil with some water and some to
lots of sun. The caudex can grow to three centimetres in diameter,
ten centimetres long, the entire plant
to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellow to pale yellow.
The genera name from the Greek
words ἰατρός; iatros, meaning 'physician', and τροφή;
trophe
meaning 'nutrition', as to medicinal uses. The species name from
pacht; "thick" and rhiza; "root". Three centimetres does not
sound "thick" to me... |
