Groot Swartberg Nature

This member of the Euphorbiaceae
was given this name by Gerhard Marx in 1999. It is found in the Groot Swartberg
Nature Reserve in southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to eight centimetres in height. The flowers are green.
The genera is named after
Euphorbos, the Greek physician of King Juba II of Numidia. The
species is named from Latin; sub-; 'under' and pressa,
'pressed' for the growing form.
