This member of the Moraceae family was given this name by Anthony G. Miller in 1996. It is found on the Yemen island of Socotra, growing on limestone with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to one centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to ten centimetres in height. The flowers are pale green to orange.

The genera is named after Theodor Dorsten, 16th century German botanist and medical professor at Marburg. The species name for the island it is found on.
