This member of the Commelinaceae
family was
given this name
by Justus Carl Hasskarl in 1870. It is found in
southern
Africa and Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to a
lot of sun. The bulb can grow up to five centimetres in diameter,
the whole plant will grow up to 30 centimetres in height. The
flowers are blue to pink.
The genera name from Latin;
cyaneus; 'blue'. The species name means 'showy' or
'spectacular'. |
