This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was given this name by Raul Martínez Crovetto in 1954. It is found in Argentina, and might be in Brazil and Uruguay, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. I can't find any references to the size of the caudex, but the entire plant reach three meters in height. The flowers are yellow.

The genera name is from Greek apodos; 'without a foot' and Greek antheros; 'flowering' for the sessile flowers. The species name is made up of Latin sagitta 'arrow' and -folia ('eaved' components meaning 'with arrow-shaped leaves'.
