This member of the
Agavaceae family was given this name by Sereno Watson in 1878. It is found in the southern part of North America, growing in a well drained soil with little to some water and lots of sun. The stem can grow to 25 centimetres in diameter, the plant up to one and a half meters height with a four meter inflorescence with white flowers.

Latin name in Greek means: Tufted lily.

It is dioecious.

Former a member of the Liliaceae family.
