This member of the Talinacaea family was given this name by Carl Ludwig von Willdenow in 1799. It is found from South Africa, up through eastern Africa, over the Arabic Peninsular into
India and Nepal. It can grow in almost anything, given some to lots of water and some to lots of sun. The swollen roots can grow to eight centimetres in diameter, the stems reaches 90 or even 200 centimetres. The flowers are pink.

The genera name is derived from the Senegalese name for a certain species in Senegal. The species name means 'leaves tapered to the base'.

I only found these rather succulent and hairy leaves.
