The plant can grow up to 60 centimetres with a stem of fourteen centimetres. The flowers are bright yellow, and the plant can be reproduced both by seeds and cuttings.

The genera name is the Latin form of the Arabic word for a 'thorny bush'. The species name means 'of noon, mid-day' when it flowers.
