This member of the Amaryllidaceae
family was given this name by
in 1824. It is found
in Argentina and Uruguay, growing in a well sandy soil with
some water and lots of sun. The bulb can grow to two and a half
centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 15 centimetres in
surprisingly large flowers are usually pink, but almost white forms
