This dioecious member of
the Cucurbitaceae family was described by Joseph
Dalton Hooker in 1867.
It is found in Angola,
Cameroon, Congo, Nigeria, Sudan and Zaïre. It grows in a well drained soil with some
water and some sun. The thickened rootstock can grow to 20
centimetres in diameter, the vines can grow up to three or four
metres. The flowers are golden-yellow.
The genera name from Greek eu;
'truly' -rei-; 'unknown' and aner; ' stamen'. The species name
means 'beautiful'.
