This member of the
Vitaceae family
was given this name by Martin Vahl Henrichsen in 1794. It is found in Andaman Islands,
Assam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, South-Central China, Himalaya, India, Laos,
Myanmar, Nepal, Nicobar Islands, Thailand and Vietnam. It is growing in a
clayish soil with quite some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
twelve centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to seven metres or more in height. The flowers are green.
The generic name is derived
from the Greek word κισσος kissos, meaning 'ivy'. The species
name means 'with slightly
uneven, undulating margin' for the leaves. |
