This member of the Asphodelaceae family was described by Rune Bertil Nordenstam in 1964. It is from West Cape, South Africa. It grows in grit with some water and sun. The flowers are white, and seeds are the only way of reproducing. 

The species has lately been divided up in to two species, the other species is named after Magariet Weise: Bulbine margarethae.

The genera name means 'bulbous'. The species name means 'Haworthia-like'.
