This member of the Passifloraceae
family was described by Hermann August Theodor Harms in 1895. It is found in
Tanganyika Terrace, Kenya, Somaliland, Malawi, Tanzania and
Uganda, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun.
The flowers are crème coloured. The rootstock can grow to five and a
half centimetre in diameter, the plant can grow up to one and a half
meter in height. The name Adenia
is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands
found on leaves of most of the species.
