   This member of the Alliaceae family was given this name by Canio G. Vosa in 1977. It is found in the hights ofDrakensberg in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some organic matter and some water and lots of sun. The rhizome can grow to two centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 18 centimetres in height. The flowers are greyish white, green and orange-brown.

Tulbaghia is named after Ryk Tulbagh, governor of the Cape of Good Hope.
