This member of the Liliaceae family was given this name by Joseph Robert Sealy and William Bertram Turrill  in 1955. It is found on the Greek islands; Kithira and Crete, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulbs grow to four and a half centimetres, the entire plant can reach 10 to 25 centimetres. The flowers - one or two on each bulb - are bright red.

*) I thought the Liliaceae family had been split up completely, but I don't seem to find any other for this plant.
