This member of the Bromeliaceae
family was given this name by Charles Jacques Édouard Morren in
1880. It is found, growing as an epiphyte, in Mexico and central
America. It requires some water and lots of sun. The inflated pseudobulbs will grow up to 3,5 centimetres in diameter. The flowers are dark pink with a
purple centre.
The genera is named after
Elias Tillands, 1640–1693, a Swedish botanist, working in Finland.
The species name means 'Medusa's head'. |
