Caudex from Botanická zahrada Teplice
   This member of the Malpighiaceae family was given this name by August Heinrich Rudolf Grisebach and Anders Sandø Ørsted in 1853. It is found in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama, growing in a well drained soil with quite some water and lots of sun. The caudex might grow to 40 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant perhaps to six metres in height. The flowers are yellow.
