This member of the Asteraceae family was described by John Hutchinson in 1914. It is found on the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, growing in grit or other well drained soil with little water and some sun. The stem will grow up to eight centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to 25 centimetres height. The flowers are yellow.

The genera name from the Greek othone, 'a linen cloth or napkin', in allusion to the downy covering of some of the earlier known species. The species name means 'swollen root'.

It was a bit dormant, when I found it.
