This tiny member of the Hyacinthaceae* family was given this name by Mario Martínez-Azorín, Manuel Benito Crespo and Ana Juan in 2014. It is found in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow from eight to twelve millimetres in diameter, the entire plant from 1,2 to seven centimetres in height. The flowers are white with an outer green line.

The genera name was given by Constantine Samuel Rafinesque in 1837, honouring Nicippe from the Greek mythology. The species name refers to it resemblance with Lithops - must be the dormant bulbs.
