This member of the Amaryllidaceae  family was described by Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus in 1929. It is found in Little Namaq, central South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb will grow up to tvelwe centimetres in diameter, the plant will grow to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are pale pink.

The genera name from Greek gethyon, 'bulb'. The species due to the large flowers.
