This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by
John Gilbert Baker in 1885. It is found
in northwest Cape and Namaqualand in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil
like sand or grit with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in
flowers are ivory to pink.
