   This member of the Fritillariaceae family was given this name by Pierre Edmond Boissier and Wilhelm von Spruner in 1846. It is found in Albania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Greece and on Crete, growing in limestone in forests with some  water and some sun. The bulbs can grow to two and a half centimetres, the little plant up to 15 centimetres high.
