This member of the
Asclepiadaceae*
family
was given this name by Peter Vincent Bruyns in 1988. It is found in the Dhofar
Province in Oman and Al-Mahra in Yemen, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow from fifteen to 30
centimetres in diameter, the entire plant from 100 to 150
centimetres in height. The flowers are green with purplish brown minute
spots.
The genera name from Latin;
cibus; 'nourishment' or 'food' and Greek; rhiza; 'root'
as the roots can be eaten.
The species name after
the area it first was found in; Dhofar.
