great looking member of the Nolinaceae*
family
was given this name by
Vanessa Rojas and Leonardo Alvarado-Cardenas
in 2016. It is found in Izúcar de
Matamoros, south-western Puebla, central southern Mexico, at 1297
metres height. It is growing in a well drained soil with some organic
matter, and with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
130 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant
to five centimetres in height. The flowers are cream coloured.
It is only known form a 100 Km2
area, and only 25 large plants and a few seedlings have been found.
The genera name after Monsieur
Beaucarne, a Belgian succulent plant grower who first collected
flowers of the genera. The species is named after Dr. Mark E. Olson,
who found the plant.
