This member of the
Colchicaceae
family was given this name by
John Gilbert Baker in 1874.
It's found in western Sahara, growing it a well-drained soil with
some water and lots of sun. The bulbs will grow to three centimetres
and the whole plant to five centimetres. The flowers are white, and
the plant can be reproduced both by seeds and bulbs.
The genera name from Greek.
andro; 'male / stamen' and kymbium; 'cup' / saucer'. The
petal limbs enfold the stamens. The species name means 'spots'. |
